Do you work in land use planning? Curious about how UNDRIP impacts the ways local governments and First Nations in B.C. are working together? Join us for a 2.5-day workshop specifically designed to enhance connections and understanding between First Nations and local government on land use frameworks and identify tools for developing shared land use practices.
With the input of experienced practitioners from First Nations and local governments, this workshop features regionally curated content for the Vancouver Island and Coast region. The registration is open to First Nations and local government staff from this region only.

This workshop aims to strengthen the dialogue between First Nations and local governments, providing valuable tools and strategies for developing shared land use practices. Participants will explore the intersections of land use planning through interactive sessions, discussions, and presentations led by experts in the field.

Bursary Opportunity for First Nations Registrants:
First Nations staff attending the workshop can apply for a $150 bursary to help cover registration fees. We encourage eligible applicants facing financial barriers to apply.
The bursary application deadline is also November 4, 2024.

Pre-Workshop Session: The workshop will begin with Jenelle Greenway leading the Cultivating Safe Spaces Workshop on November 12. Learn more about the Cultivating Safe Spaces Workshop: https://www.cultivatingsafespaces.com/
Jenelle Greenway, a Two-Spirit Tahltan-Kaska writer, podcaster, and Indigenous Rights activist, will lead this session, focusing on decolonizing education and fostering collaboration between Indigenous and Settler communities. Her approach centers on creating inclusive spaces, guiding organizations in adopting reconciliatory practices, and offering tools for supporting the LandBack movement and Reconciliation. Through her work, Jenelle highlights the impact of lateral violence on creativity and performance, offering participants spiritual self-care techniques and insights into managing team dynamics.
Keynote Speaker: On November 13, we are honoured to feature Gwen Bridge, who will deliver the keynote address. Gwen brings a wealth of knowledge on Indigenous governance and land management. She is recognized for her leadership in integrating Indigenous perspectives into environmental planning, land use management, and building sustainable practices.
