The two day event will include a meet and great with both teams, a discussion session on workplace harassment and violence, relationship building, the fundamentals of Labour Standards, etc. The afternoon will consist of rotating discussions on a number of topics including:
- An open dialogue space with Knowledge Keeper Tim O’Loan,
- Unjust dismissal,
- Work hours (work/leave),
- Occupational Health & Safety 101,
- Labour Standards 101,
- Incident Reporting,
- Harassment & Violence guidance
For this event it is vital that we hear your voice, we want to hear your stories, questions, concerns relating to indigenous employment. For instance, for the Introduction to Employment and Social Development Canada(ESDC) discussion panel:
- What would you like to know about our department and what we do?
- What challenges have you found working with labour standards or health & safety?
- What did you find that works for you?
- What resources would you like to see, how can we better support indigenous workplaces?
For the harassment and violence discussion panel, what do you think of the new legislation? What guidance is available to help you get started implementing the changes? How does it better serve you, what challenges have you found? This session will be built around your questions, stories and experiences. Please feel free to give feedback or ask questions on any of the topics above.
All questions and communication regarding the event will be kept confidential. We will not share your information without permission at any point, but please feel free to speak openly about your concerns during the sessions. Our goal for this event is to learn from each other and create better, stronger relationships in our region.
