
Part 1 of the Pre- and Post-Election Training for Leaders, this training targets BC First Nations individuals considering running for positions of elected leadership. Delivered over 2 full days in-person, this training provides a foundation to help participants prepare for the responsibilities of leadership. Key topics include:
- Understanding Nation governing systems and custom election codes.
- Embracing values-based leadership.
- Managing senior managers and operations effectively.
The Pre-Election Training for Leaders is designed to help participants develop leadership skills, build confidence, and connect with peers who share their commitment to serving their community through leadership.

*Reimbursement Policy*
To support First Nations participation in this training, FNPSS will provide a full reimbursement of training fees and travel costs for a maximum of two participants from each BC First Nation to attend the Pre-Election for Leaders Training.
To be eligible, a participant must meet the following requirements:
- Be interested in running for a position of elected leadership in their Nation, or be interested in re-election for a position of elected leadership in their Nation.
- Attend the full Pre-Election for Leaders Training in-person. If a participant does not attend all sessions of the training, they will not be eligible for reimbursement.
- Not exceed the limit of two participants per BC First Nation to receive reimbursement.
Additional representatives from the same community or Nation may attend the event at their own expense.
What’s Included for Reimbursement
Two participants per BC First Nation will be eligible for reimbursement of the following:
- 100% of the training registration fees waived.
- Reasonable travel costs, meals (less provided) and incidentals per the First Nations Summit Society Travel Policy. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on all training days.
- Accommodation at the hotel (location to be confirmed). The allowance for accommodations is one extra day plus training dates for a maximum of three nights.
Expenses that will not be reimbursed include, but are not limited to:
- Local travel within Vancouver Island beyond commercial transportation between the hotel, airport or ferry.
- Fees for late cancellations (accommodations, airfare, etc.)
