The need for major investments in B.C.’s watershed security has never been more urgent. Local governments, Indigenous nations, and stewardship groups have long called for increased provincial government support to conserve, protect and restore our shared watersheds.
With its current mandate, the B.C. government is committed to creating a B.C. Watershed Security Fund. Broader public consultations about the Fund are about to be launched.
The webinar will share proposed directions for the Fund from a new paper released by the Sustainable Funding Working Group, an independent group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous experts. It will provide an opportunity for interactive discussion between participants and members of this Working Group on the importance of the Fund and its potential to be a game-changer for watersheds and community health and security into the future.
Participants will come away from this session with new ideas and concrete strategies for how they can get involved in the development of this critically important provincial commitment.
This webinar is part of a broader series designed to spark dialogue and raise awareness about the priority and potential of the Watershed Security Fund, as the provincial government begins its broad consultation processes.
Hear from: Summerland Mayor Toni Boot; Tara Marsden, a member of Gitanyow First Nation; and Tim Morris, project director Project Director for the BC Freshwater Legacy.
