Title: Raising Capital: Navigating the Opportunities and Challenges Faced by Indigenous-led Enterprises

Description: Richard Muller, Senior Advisor and Peer Leader at Impact United, an impact investor community, will review the key takeaways from their “Taking Steps” report which identifies actions to address challenges faced by Indigenous-led enterprises in raising private capital. Some of these actions include (1) educating investors and investees, and (2) building relationships between capital providers and seekers.

Following Richards’s presentation, Innovate BC will provide a walkthrough of Capital Compass BC, a free-to-use digital tool that allows users to explore the capital flows and opportunities that exist within the province.

Richard Muller leads the SVX Impact United initiative to build and curate a community of foundations, family offices and HNIs in Canada who are committed to deploying their capital for both social and environmental impact, alongside financial return. Previously, Richard held a number of executive positions at Toniic, a global network of active impact investors from more than 25 countries.

Foundations for Professional Communications, an offering from the First Nations Public Service Secretariat and the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology, got off to a great start with our in-person week of learning in January. Pictured here is the incredible cohort of First Nations communicators, and our amazing instructor, Davis McKenzie of Toxw oxw (Becoming Clear) Communications.

The students were able to hone their skills in key areas of communications, and at the end of the week were joined by Howard Grant, Executive Director of the First Nations Summit, and Jehan Casey, Director of the First Nations Public Service Secretariat, who were in attendance as they presented their very own communications plans. All their hard work, commitment, and enthusiasm made this week a huge success, and we are so excited for them as they complete this course and continue their journeys in communications!
