POLICY DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT TRAINING ACADEMY – VIRTUAL WORKSHOP SERIES

Policy MTA

The First Nations Public Service Secretariat (FNPSS)’s Management Training Academies (MTAs) provide tools and training tailored to BC First Nations needs from experts in the core competencies: Records and Information Management (RIM), Policy Development, and Human Resources Management (HR).

Policy is a tool that helps support communities as they achieve their goals and clarifies how governments operate to the benefit of the citizens. Through the Policy MTA, which will be delivered over three virtual half-days on Zoom, participants build an understanding of the purpose and objectives of policy, learn more about how it is used effectively, and engage in discussions on practical and everyday examples of policy at work within communities. The MTA also focuses on creating and sustaining policy frameworks that are aimed at achieving social, governance, economic, and environmental success.

Event Dates: Nov 9, 16, & 23, 2021
Event Time: 9:00am – 12:30pm (each day)
Event Location: Zoom
Cost: $185 (includes all three half-day sessions)

Reverse Town Hall: First Nations to Government Knowledge Sharing

A Conversation on Indigenous and Traditional Knowledge

November 17, 2021
12:00 to 1:00 PST
Via Zoom
Register now: fnps.ca/event/reverse-townhall-firstnations-government/

#JoinUs for a discussion on Indigenous and Traditional Knowledge, with Dr. Christopher Horsethief from the Ktunaxa Nation and Colleen Hemphill, Chief Negotiator and member of the Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw Nations. Beyond the legislative obligation to incorporate Indigenous knowledge into decision-making processes within federal departments, there is a strong appetite to learn more about the many diverse Indigenous worldviews and practices and how to respectfully and meaningfully find a path to integrate western science and Indigenous knowledge. An important first step is listening directly to communities on how we work together and where to start.

In advance of the webinar, we invite you watch the 20-minute Ted Talk by Dr. Horsethief www.christopherhorsethief.com/presentations/ and a 36 minute documentary called Seven Days with the Chief www.christopherhorsethief.com/documentaries/.

This is a joint FNPSS – BCFC Secretariat event under the Strengthening Public Service Institutions Initiative.
