The First Nations Public Service Secretariat (FNPSS)’s Management Training Academies (MTAs) provide tools and training tailored to BC First Nations needs from experts in the core competencies: Records and Information Management (RIM), Policy Development, and Human Resources Management (HR).
Policy is a tool that helps support communities as they achieve their goals and clarifies how governments operate to the benefit of the citizens. Through the Policy MTA, which will be delivered over three virtual half-days on Zoom, participants build an understanding of the purpose and objectives of policy, learn more about how it is used effectively, and engage in discussions on practical and everyday examples of policy at work within communities. The MTA also focuses on creating and sustaining policy frameworks that are aimed at achieving social, governance, economic, and environmental success.

Maddy Coxford: Co-Facilitator
Maddy Coxford (she/her) is the Director of Operations for Esquimalt Nation and is responsible for general administration operations, information technology, policy development and the Human Resource department for the Nation. Maddy’s educational background is in Criminal Justice and prior to starting her work with the Nation in 2019, she was employed by the Provincial Government where she worked on a provincial response team providing support to various indigenous communities in Northern BC. Maddy lives in Victoria and is currently completing her Master’s degree in Conflict Analysis and Management through Royal Roads University, as well as a Masters Certificate in Project Management through the University of Victoria.
Lisa Pastro: Co-Facilitator
Lisa Pastro is a Westbank First Nation (WFN) member and has served as WFN’s Business Process and Governance Analyst since 2018. She has over 15 years of governance and progressive management experience through previous roles held with Accenture Canada and BC Hydro. Lisa is a member commissioner on the Economic Development Commission for WFN and is currently working to obtain her Local Government Administration diploma through Capilano University. Recently, she has also started her own consulting business where she is currently assisting a local First Nation in the Similkameen Valley develop their governance practices, specifically focusing on Human Resources and Policy Development.
