Significant funds have been distributed to First Nations over the last year to respond to the pandemic. With the fiscal year-end coming up and ongoing uncertainty on reporting requirements and financial accountability, webinar panelists will discuss how they have been managing their finances to be able to pivot and manage their COVID relief funds for audits and budgets.
Join Sukhi Chouhan (Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of BC), Brian Conner (Penticton Indian Band) and Heather Fader (Shackan Indian Band) to learn how other First Nations are preparing for the unknown, from ensuring they can report out on their COVID spending to being able to apply for newly-released funds to budgeting for the uncertain times ahead.
Sukhi Chouhan

Sukhi Chouhan is President of Chouhan Accounting Ltd.; with an office in Kamloops, BC. He was designated a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) in 2008 while working at KPMG. In 2015, he became a Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager (CAFM) while working as a consultant with Skeetchestn Indian Band and Upper Nicola Indian Band. Mr Chouhan is a member of AFOA. Currently he provides services as Financial Controller – Consultant with Skeetchestn Indian Band and Chief Financial Officer – Consultant with Knucwentwecw Development Corporation in Skeetchestn, BC.
Brian Conner
Chief Financial Officer @ Penticton Indian Band
As Chief Financial Officer, Brian’s role is to manage, control and report on Penticton Indian Band finances in the most transparent manner possible applying the highest professional and ethical standards. Brian is a CPA, CMA, CAFM (Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager), has a Certificate in Local Government Administration (Capilano University) and a Certificate in Leadership (Okanagan College). He worked 12 years as Director of Finance at Westbank First Nation, 3 years as Director of Finance at Heiltsuk Tribal Council (Bella Bella, BC), and 15 years in Controllership with various Vancouver corporations. Before becoming an accountant, Brian worked on tugboats on the BC Coast, Mackenzie River, Arctic Ocean, and Hudson’s Bay.
Heather Fader
Executive Director @ Shackan Indian Band
Heather Fader is the Executive Director for Shackan Indian Band located in Merritt, BC. Heather has extensive knowledge and experience in Human Resources and Management with public, private and First Nations organizations. Her current position involves all areas of a First Nation including, administrations, finance, HR, governance, economic development and housing. Heather has been a member of AFOA Canada since 2009. She received her Certified Aboriginal Professional Administrator (CAPA) Designation in 2014, is also a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) and is now pursuing a Certified Aboriginal Financial Management (CAFM) designation with AFOA Canada.
