Implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the UN Declaration Act (rebroadcast)

  • This event has passed.

The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (the Declaration) is a comprehensive international human rights instrument for Indigenous peoples around the world. In Canada, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (UN Declaration Act), which came into force in June 2021, provides a legislative framework to advance the implementation of the Declaration at a federal level, as a key step in renewing the Government of Canada’s relationship with Indigenous peoples.

This event features a panel discussion with First Nations, Inuit and Métis experts as well as senior federal government officials who will provide an overview of both the Declaration and the UN Declaration Act with a focus on their role in providing a framework for reconciliation. Learn about the Government of Canada’s obligations in relation to supporting the implementation of the Declaration at the federal level, in consultation and cooperation with Indigenous peoples.

This event is presented in partnership with the Department of Justice Canada.
